Why not a lawyer or an artist?
Why not a Finance analyst or a teacher?
What about being a statistician?
Why not being a transcriptionist?
Do people know about these careers et al.
Recently i met my cousin,passed his tenth with flying colours .My obvious question was "what are your future plans?".Pat came the reply-I want to be a jounalist.i was so glad to hear that.My maternal aunt overhearing the conversation interrupted "What journalism?!!Thats so risky and unstable.Think about money also.Why dont you take up engineering?It will be a cakewalk for you".It is so frustrating to hear that kinda suggestion.Why dont people let others be?
A week ago my best friend got a job ,the job which she calls it as her dream job.She did her degree in Economics-statistics-maths,her subjects of interest.And i choose to clarify here.She had an amazing percentage in 12th and an equally good rank in CET.She chose her career out of her interest and iam extremely happy to see where is today.Doing wat she always wanted to do.She is working in an international bank as a finance analyst and the pay packet,i must say is too much for a starter.My point is why does everybody have to follow the same path just because you have been told to do so even though you are not meant to.
I know so many people who have been forced to choose engineering and medicine just because of parental pressure or some other obvious reason.I am sure many will not agree with me.Its just that these two popular fields are not the end.It is the challenge that matters and ultimately the job satisfaction.

u know this has been discussed so many times ,and we have gone hoarse asking people to give us the freedom to choose what we want to do,but i doubt that will ever happen to our generation .
i hope when we become parents we would be more open to other careers apart from the stereotypical med n engg courses !
@Bhav - Ask me about the job satisfaction!! :) Recently, I was talking to my friends sister and she told me she's doing Occupational Therapy. Like all your guys, I had no idea what that meant. It means to help a disabled person become independent. How cool can your job get!! You helping someone, doing a good deed and earning too!
I am surprised the engineering, medical thgy still happens after our education system introducing graduation courses like IT, Business Administration , Mass Media and Aviation to follow.
Bhav - This is a good post and the line breaks are fine too. Next improvement area is capitalization of the word :) I hope I am not being pricky!

I'm ging through the same phase now. Everybody around me are talking about carrers and stuff.
Their first option is always Engg or Medical !! I don't get it !! Ultimately, whats the point in doing something just for the heck of money ??
And the hell lot of competition in every school in Bangalore adds on to all the peer pressure.
Almost 90% of my class is preparing for the IIT-JEE or AIEEE or the BIT-SAT. I have no other option. They all join BASE and slog 24 hours a day !! Acc. to them, if you don't get IIT or NIT, then you are a loser !! Bah !
I so need to find whats the right thing for me to do. The problem is, I still havent realized my dreams. I'm totally confused right now :(
@Pri - There are creative fields too! Advertising, architect, interior designer or perhaps journalism! Anything but no engineers or doctors - this country has loads of them! I am just ranting my opinion - you have to think and jolt down your points!

Actually it's not true that everyone is in for Engg or Med.. it only seems so coz we are around such people..
there are hundreds of thousands of them who choose arts and commerce..
they are many who do law.. NLSIU is preferred as much as IIT... finally it's only how much money you make at the end than the love of the field (except few)
there are hundreds of them doing graphic design..
if you see the percentage of population doing arts/commerce, they'll be more than engg/med.
If there were more Sachin Tendulkars who just loved cricket (one thing in life) more than anything else..
world would be a place of geniuses..

I totally agree with that.But the thing is here in blore or ,may be, the whole of South India this is the isssue.If you don have an Engg/med degree they think you are an easy-goer.That sort-of attitude gets on my nerves.Anyways,about NLSIU,i wanted to mention that in my post.I was an aspirant.Found it really difficult to get in.Very few people know about NLSIU.
Not everybody thinks or knows about what they feel or like as you have rightly mentioned.Hope that knida attitude changes among everybody
And hey,Not everybody can be Sachin tendulkar.Kambli could not though he thinks cricket is his life

Have you seen Sachin's interviews? He talks so passionately about cricket.. it's like he just wants to keep playing.. nothing else matters!
And that is not attitude.. that's something you are born with.. it's hard to cultivate.. actually impossible.
